HEALTH FOCUS: CHILD DEATHS

EXPERTS OFFER TIPS OF PREVENTING CHILD DEATHS

According to the 2011 Uganda Demographic and Health Survey, one in every nineteen children dies before the first birthday and one in eleven before the fifth. Most of the deaths are preventable and Save The Children says that progress can only be possible if the main causes of death are targeted with simple life saving interventions.

But now that health facilities are upping their game, the parents have been urged to put in even more effort in caring for the babies after they are released from the hospitals to prevent killers like malnutrition, diarrhoea and malaria.
