Police arrests six officers over corruption

The Professional Standards Unit of Police have arrested six of its own officers for taking bribes and engaging in other illegal activities.

Police officers from the Professional Standards Unit have arrested 6 officers who were reportedly involved in extorting money from the public. The arrests are part of the unit’s efforts to rid the force of indisciplined officers.

A number of reports from corruption watchdogs like Transparency International have in the past ranked the police among the most corrupt institutions in Uganda.

The Police have warned of taking stern action against any officer found guilty of any offences.
